About

Our Mission:

The mission of The Empowerment Center of Greater Cleveland is to create positive outcomes in the lives of low-income people. The Empowerment Center of Greater Cleveland accomplishes this through advocacy, community organizing, and developing programs to stimulate individual personal development.

Through our forty-five years of service, we have improved lives throughout the greater Cleveland area. Click here to learn more.

Our Vision:

The Empowerment Center of Greater Cleveland will do this through advocacy, community organizing and developing programs to stimulate individual personal development. These activities will have an impact on reducing the complex set of conditions that would otherwise work to trap low-income people into a “cycle of poverty.”

Our Values:

ECGC educates and informs the public about laws and regulations that impact people to encourage individual and collective responsibility of its participants. The Empowerment Center of Greater Cleveland holds firmly to the principle that all people, regardless of their circumstances, are entitled to the access of resources, opportunities to secure their basic human needs, and to affirm their human dignity.

Our existing programs are designed to help people to be active in the empowerment process in order to achieve their goals and improve their life conditions. The agency goals are:

    1. EMPOWERMENT – To encourage self-sufficiency and individual responsibility by linking low-income people with the appropriate community resources.

    1. DIGNITY- To promote the recognition that low-income people are entitled to the same freedoms and rights as all American citizens.

    1. DEMOCRACY- To encourage low-income people to have direct participation in the processes and the decisions under which they live.

  1. EDUCATION AND TRAINING- To provide access to program and job opportunities by encouraging the development of skills that allow low-income people the opportunity to enhance their economic conditions.

Our Strategies:

  • Assist low-income people in understanding and participating in the empowerment process through which people who lack an equal share of valued resources gain greater access to and control over those resources.
  • Establish strategic alliances with other economic, health, education, and social service organizations dedicated to fighting the factors that contribute to the conditions of poverty.
  • Serve as an effective link between people who are in need of assistance ad the system of organizations and programs that deliver the assistance.
  • Be at the “cutting edge” of low-income rights advocacy: the right to access and to participate in the processes that direct and control their society and community.
  • Continue to prick the collective consciousness regarding basic human needs and offer viable mechanisms for addressing these needs.
